Lottery Cards

I was fooling around on eBay the other day and came across two cards that just blew my mind.  Both of these are actually on auction right now which is rare.  Usually you see these type of cards with BIN's of $99,999,999 or best offer.

I took the pictures off of the current eBay auctions.

I really couldn't even imagine pulling a card like this.  The best card I've seen pulled in person was a Johnny Unitas auto and these two blow that out of the water.  By most accounts I'm a calm person, but I'm sure I would have some crazy reaction.

Most of us have what we consider whale cards but what would you consider these? In my title I call them lottery cards.  I think winning the lottery is about the only way I could attain these. What would your lottery cards be?

Here are a few of mine
- high grade Clemente rookie
- the above two cards
- T206 Honus Wagner

The two autos would actually be really cheap compared to the Clemente and T206.

In case any of you are looking for a birthday gift for me, you now have some ideas....

  1. Lottery cards for me would be happening on a complete run of all the Spic N Span cards of the Milwaukee Braves issued in the 1950s and finding them in a family member's house so I get them free.

    1. I'm sure oddballs from the 50's carry considerable value. Just start randomly knocking on senior citizens doors to see if they have them.

  2. Easy. The 1915/16 M101-5 Babe Ruth RC. Not a ton of vintage cards depict Ruth with the Sox. Might as well go big.

I could also add the 1939 Playball Ted Williams RC to the list. But, every once in a while a copy that's been practically destroyed shows up on eBay really close to my price range. So, I'm still holding out hope...

    1. Most vintage becomes affordable if you don't mind the condition. Hope you find that Williams!

  4. For me it'd be
*An auto-T206 booklet of Wee Willie Keeler (Topps actually made one back in 2009)
*A Jack Chesbro autograph (they're pretty much non-existant)
*A Bryce Harper 2011 Bowman Chrome autograph

    1. I would love a Harper Chrome myself. I have his auto on a dual with Taillon, but would love one of his big ones.

    1. I can't believe you didn't come to me first with that Wagner. You know I collect his autos.

  6. hate to see the cutauto frame cut off the signature like on the Wagner. Ya (Topps) gotta accommodate the autograph. Make it a fucking box topper if it's too bid, don't cut it off. If I pulled that card, I would have to sell it because otherwise I'd have constant OCD demons telling me to rip up the sides of the "frame" to free the full signature.

    1. Brian from HSCA noticed that cut too. Not sure if the photo is screwed up or they actually cut it.

  7. Maybe the '87 Topps Dave Stewart. Tough to get a bead on that one... dare to dream...

    1. Oh man, you will have to show me a picture of the FBI Disc Garvey. I don't think I've seen one of those.

  9. As a historian by trade I have mixed thoughts on cut signatures-but these two cards are sweet-

  10. I think lottery card is a perfect description. Mine would be the 1980 Reading Phillies TCMA Ryne Sandberg card. It's no T206 Wagner or '52 Mantle, but it's the one card in my crosshairs I good never in my right mind pull the trigger on.

    1. Hopefully you will end up with it. Just pull a Kris Bryant and you can get multiples....

  12. My lottery cards would be any of the big five from the T206 set.

    1. Yeah, I think any card collector has to have something from that set as a lottery card.

  13. Oh...two more would be the 1894 Mayo Cut Plug Anonymous and the 1888 Goodwin Harry Beecher.

  14. #1: 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson
    #2: Jackie Robinson autograph
#3: 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig (I'd be happy with either card)
    #4: 1983 Topps Tony Gwynn PSA 10
    #5: 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson PSA 10

I will never own any of these... unless I win the lottery.
