Those Sneaky French

Kevin from The Card Papoy just sent a wonderful trade package last week that is going to take me a little bit of time to return the favor. While I had my guard down he managed to sneak a couple more cards my way. This time from one of my favorite prospect sets.

I spoke in detail about Leaf Trinity at the end January. The set offers a nice change of pace from the Bowman products by offering most of the big name prospects without the "prospectors" driving the prices to unreachable amounts.

The first card is the acetate variations that have the look of glass and are very thick. I was excited to see this as it will make a perfect pairing with the Cole Tucker I picked up last December.

The second card is the more standard autograph issue in Trinity, but this Connor Joe is a parallel /25! Kevin was worried that I already have this one, but I only have the base issue. I've seen some pretty neat inscriptions on these cards. Some will say when they were drafted, college affiliation and I've even seen bible verses. This one is unique in that he printed and signed his name. That makes this auto super official!

Kevin I can't thank you enough for all the great cards you've been sending. Looking forward to finding some great Blue Jays for you and continue the trading momentum.

  1. Nice cards! I'm hoping Joe pans out, if only to continue the legacy of the Rincon/Giles trade a little longer (Giles, Bay, Bryan Morris, and Joe with the competitive balance pick from Miami).

PiratesProspects had a pretty interesting write up on him the other day:

    1. I guess the bat will play with him. His versatility will help him.

  2. That showy French guy. What gives? His generosity leaves me suspicious.

  3. Interesting, I thought that Kevin wasn't into prospects...

    1. Maybe you and I are converting him. We do spend a lot of time talking about prospects.

Well, I'm not, because I have trouble enough trying to follow what happens in the big leagues, but I do like to find cards that fit my trading partners' collections...this one said 'Go Pirates', so it was kind of simple to know what farm system's team he's in ! (I'm a very smart French dude)

I do find a little silly this 'Go Pirates inscription'. You can write whatever you want, and he opts for what a 6 year old would write. It's silly but cute.

    1. Soon you will love Panini and prospects! The inscriptions are a little cheesy but I like the extra stuff.

  5. Oh, and what Matt is too modest to say is that I sent those couple of cards because he helped me out with something spontaneously. He wants to make me look generous so you'll like me and embrace me, but in truth...

  6. I see the name "Connor Joe" and I think of that late 80s/early 90s band Ugly Kid Joe. With that Road Warrior-like eyeblack, Connor looks like a hair band member of some sort.

But, those are great cards, as always, from Kevin!

  7. Very nice! I'm not a prospector in the least, but I have been thinking about hording some Aaron Judge cards, but they are starting to get pretty expensive. Maybe I should look into Leaf and see if I can find some for a decent price.

Reason why I don't usually collect the prospects is whenever I start collecting one, the Yankees trade him away before he makes the majors thus I am trading them away. My number one rule for my Yankee collection is any player in my Yankees collection must have played at least 1 inning as a Yankee to stay in my collection. Last player I prospected was Austin Jackson and he was gone in the Curtis Granderson deal.

    1. It would be tough to collect prospects of the big market teams. Like you said, they could be out of the system long before they ever make their debut.

I think you would like the Trinity set. Even the biggest names are still within reach.
