Different Ways to Follow Through

Of all the current Pirates Starling Marte might be the hardest to collect. It isn't really that he is outrageously expensive, but the prices of his cards encompass a large range. You might see an auto go for $10 one day and the next it will be $20. The good thing is if you keep an eye out deals can be had.

The New Guard autos all come in two variations. I picked these up from different sellers for around $12 combined. One of the sellers had a ton of cheap Tier One autos in which I took advantage of his combined shipping charges. Some of you will be seeing some in the near future! 

As for the cards themselves they are nice. You can't beat an on card auto, so that is a definite plus. The background kind of looks like wallpaper my grandmother had growing up, but it is not all that distracting. 

Marte has kind of been all over the place this year. He has really picked up the power numbers which has been a pleasant surprise. The adverse side of this is that he has been batting cleanup and the opportunities to run have been much less. Also, he continues to go through prolonged slumps where he swings at everything. He recently just ended an 0 for 18 slump. Right now you just have to take the good with the bad and hope that over time he learns to be more disciplined. When hot he is every bit as talented as Cutch, but he has yet to learn Cutch's overall consistency.

    Sometimes I wish we could just fast forward to 2017 when guys like Marte will come into their own and develop the consistency you mention. (But I guess I'm saying that for my own selfish reasons: Soler, Bryant, Russell & etc.)

      Don't get wrong, Marte is already a good player. His flaws prevent him from taking the next step of being an All-Star level player.

      I don't think you will need to worry about the Cubs prospects. Most are looking pretty good.

    If we could fast forward into the future we'd probably see McCutchen traded to another team for a king's ransom of prospects.

      That will be a sad day. I just hope we can get to the World Series during his prime.

    Until you mentioned it looking like old wallpaper, I didn't notice the background, now that's all I see. At least its a decent color and blends in so its not distracting.

      You can find a Tier One cheap. Might be even worth waiting for one of the rarer parallels if the price is right.
