That Was Fun

Yesterday was quite the adventure in Morgantown. Around 330pm a strong weather front moved into the area producing crazy winds and heavy snow.

Normally this is not too big of a deal as my area is accustomed to snow.  The issue was that it was right at the time when kids were getting off school and the three biggest employers in town have shift change. Plus, that evening a sell out crowd was expected for the showdown between #1 Kansas and WVU that evening.

I heard lots of crazy stories of taking 5 hours to commute 5 miles, road closures and car abandonment. Fortunately I work close to my home and the WVU coliseum. So I trekked on foot to the coliseum and witnessed one of the better wins in recent memory for the basketball program.

I've witnessed some good court storming before, but this was by far the best.

The Mountaineers don't get much of a rest as they have to face #2 Oklahoma on Saturday.  It is the first time since the mid 90's that a team has played 1 and 2 consecutively.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I don't get to watch much college basketball, but I was out playing trivia at a local watering hole with friends last night and did my best to support the Mountaineers. The court storming was awesome. I like how the fans starting moving down to court level when there was still a couple of minutes on the clock.

    1. Our students started moving in position around the 4 minute mark. Thank god we won that game or else that would have looked really bad on tv.

    1. That had been our only accumulating snow to day. This winter has been mild so far.

  4. Haven't kept up with college hoops all year... but congratulations on the big win. As for the snow and car abandonment... I had a dream (actually more of a nightmare) a few weeks ago about being stuck in my car in the Sierras with my girlfriend and we had to abandon the car because both of us were hungry and needed to do #2.

    1. hahahaha. When you got to go you gotta go! Here in WV everything is on a hill, and once it freezes it is hard to get around. People got stuck in ice and snow and emergency vehicles couldn't get to them because of the gridlocked traffic.

  5. Wow. What a great atmosphere. Now they have to go beat #2. Used to watch a ton of college hoops. Was a big Big East fan when the league was stacked. Actually went to the first Big East tourney in Providence

    1. I loved Big East basketball. The Big 12 is awesome this year, but I miss the traditional rivals.
