The Main Event of the Bay Collection

Sometimes you just have to spoil yourself.

2006 Ultimate Collection Griffey JR/Jeter/Bay Triple Auto /50

Back when I got my first "real job" it was pretty common for me to buy cards like this. I was single and was card crazy.  Nowadays these type of  premium cards are a once or twice a year event that usually centers around birthday or Christmas time.

I purchased this card back in the early fall as a birthday present to myself. Over the years I've had a few of these slip through my fingers including a failed in person trade at a card shop. It probably was a blessing is disguise as Bay's star would fade due to injury. This probably helped in making the card more affordable.

Thanks to blogging I really don't have that crazy drive to add cards like this anymore. I think it helped me realize that I can have a collection I like without having the buy the latest and greatest. Don't get me wrong I love getting these premium cards (and I especially love this Bay card), but I get the same enjoyment from finding a cool 90's insert or a $7 Starling Marte auto.

Thanks for reading!

  1. That's a pretty interesting trio, but regardless, WOW!

  2. Man I just want a Jeter auto. But add a Griffey to it as well, I am in paradise. I hope someday I can add a Jeter auto to my collection

    1. I've had a couple of Jeter's over the years. This is the only one I have left. Griffey autos are somewhat affordable if you get him in the Reds uniform.

  3. For the life of me I can't figure out why they grouped those three players together. Power hitting CF, with a slick polarizing SS, and Jason Bay, who was a pretty solid player in his prime.
    What's the connection between them?

  4. Never looked at Jeter's signature before but there are way more than 10 letters there.

    1. My daughters style of writing right now is similar to how Jeter signs his name. My daughter is two.....

  5. Jason Bay must have been stoked to find out that he was included on a triple signature card with Jeter and Griffey. Nice card!

    1. At the time of this card being made, Bay was putting up numbers just as good as those two. Either way I'm sure if he knew he would be represented with two hall of famers he would be ecstatic.

    1. It was slim pickings for the Pirates around this time, so seeing this card for the first time made my head explode.

    1. His auto was one of the few I regret selling back in the mid 2000's. Thankfully I have it back and it fits very well into my collection.

  8. Great card, it is always interesting trying to track down autos for player collections when there are HOFers paired with them. I have a Griffey auto in my collection (I need to post it as a new HOF card) but am still without a Jeter.

    1. These cards are always a roundabout way for me to add other non Pirate players. Some cool combinations exist with hall of famer Pirates, but not many modern players.

  9. So you were the one that bought this literally as I was attempting to purchase it. I saw it hit eBay and like you wanted to spoil myself. As I clicked B-I-N it came up with an error message that the item was no longer available. Sold!

That's an absolutely incredible card my friend. Congratulations!!!! Extremely jealous of this one buddy.

    1. Two hit eBay relatively close in the fall. I actually paid more for mine than the second one. Maybe it was better off as the 2nd looked to have some condition issues.

Thanks man, I was happy to secure a big card. I don't chase as many as I use too.
