2016 Panini Pantheon Al Oliver Auto /25

It feels like Panini dumped a lot of similar looking high end sets near the end of 2016 into early 2017. Off the top of my head I can remember National Treasures, National Treasures Collegiate, Immaculate, Black Gold and Prime Cuts. I wasn't aware of Panini Pantheon until I found this Al Oliver card.

I'm a sucker for certified autos of Pirates from the late 70's. The excitement of seeing a new Oliver autograph supersedes any other deficiencies the set may have. If this would have been a current Pirate I would have probably passed on buying anything from Pantheon.  The whole thing just seems a little dull.  At least with National Treasures you get on card autos.

When looking through my Oliver autos I have in my collection I believe this is the first set he has signed for as Pirate since the 2007 Sweet Spot set. Way too long! Maybe Panini will listen to my request for more Phil Garner autos too.

Thanks for reading!

    1. That he does. Helps take my eyes off the blah looking card.

  2. Scoop had an auto in 2012 Archives Fan Favorite as a member of the Pirates. I would love to see some 70s multiplayer autos with Candy Scoop Parker and Teke

    1. I always lose track of the Fan Favorites set. I knew he and Madlock have been in it a few times.

    1. The checklists are always better than Topps. Just wish they spent a little more time on the design.

  5. Good to see Scoop in a current autograph set... even if it is a sticker. I own one of those 2007 Sweet Spot signatures of him... but sadly the signature has almost completely disappeared. It's now a member of my damaged card pc.

    1. The only ones that seem to hold up are the non baseball backing ones. The bats and gloves still look nice.

  6. It's great when players like Oliver show up in current sets. As for me, I'm hoping to see Reggie Smith in archives again at some point soon.

    1. I'm really hoping Topps works on the Fan Favorites set. That used to be one of my go to auto sets, but it has been terrible the last few years. They are either rehashing the same player over and over or adding guys that are not "fan favorites." When Sid Bream got a Pirates card in that set I just had to shake my head. Considering the fact he was part of the most heartbreaking plays in team history it is hard to call him a fan favorite. Also, Kris Benson was in that set. He was more of a bust than anything. Just weird...
