On eBay I've noticed that many of the Triple Threads cards seem to be selling cheaper than in previous years. Topps has a lot of premium sets on the market so I'm guessing breakers are being choosy on what they want to open. You may want to take some time an look at some auctions. Some bigger names are selling at what seems to be good deals.
Recently a seller that I follow listed a bunch of Triple Threads cards that were not getting much bidding action. I pounced at the chance and picked up a couple Pirate autos and a little trade bait.
Tyler Glasnow Triple Threads Auto/Relic /75
Jameson Taillon Triples Threads Auto/Relic /99
The Glasnow and Taillon cost me about $6 combined. Probably not the numbers you are looking for opening a box like Triple Threads. What little focus I've had on 2017 has been pretty much on Glasnow. Since he has struggled so much at the MLB level his cards have bottomed out big time. The Taillon was a nice bonus to take advantage of combined shipping.
Thanks for reading!
Wow, that's super cheap for Triple Threads stuff. I love reading BlowoutCards box breaking threads where people get killed on their return and people like us benefit from them playing the high-end lottery.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'd love to do a box break with you guys at some point if we could find the right product for it (I'm obviously really picky!)
You and I should find a set that features college football uniforms or at least something that has a nice mix of WVU and Michigan.
DeleteI never understood how people make their money off highend breaks. I guess they're praying for a 1 of 1 Hank Aaron autograph or a Roberto Clemente cut signature. Oh well... it's not my money and collectors like us swoop in on the deals. Congratulations on your pickups!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure to tell you the truth. With sets like Flagship and Heritage you can make money with set builders, but no one collects high end base. Like you said it is all about the mega hits.
DeleteLove the Glasnow Triple Threads. I saw him pitch a Triple A playoff game at the end of last season, seriously thought about picking up a few more of his cards.
ReplyDeleteNow is the time to buy Glasnow cards! I'm guessing the Pirates are going to give him every opportunity to start, but if it doesn't work again this year I think he will be converted to a reliever. He is just so tall and has trouble repeating his delivery.
DeleteBoth of those for $6? I should check out what Yanks are in that set.
ReplyDeleteDon't think you will find a Judge for $6 but deals can be found
DeleteGreat deals! To go along with the high price point of the boxes, I think team collectors may be getting tired of the Topps using the same guys over and over. I know as a Cardinals collector I have seen a ton of Piscotty, Alex Reyes, and Matt Carpenter auto and game used cards this year.
ReplyDeleteI get that you have to make Judge, Harper and Trout....but every set doesn't need Piscotty and Gregory Polanco.
DeleteIt's interesting to hear that I'm not the only one finding Triple Threads for cheap. I just picked up a Jackie Bradley Jr relic numbered to 18 for $3 on COMC. However, I'm extremely impressed you were able to get 2 auto relics, that's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI think the holidays helped with a little less traffic checking out auctions.
DeleteI've noticed a lot of inexpensive TTT cards as well. I think you're right that there are just so many high end products out there the market is a little saturated.
ReplyDeleteTopps has done a really poor job at changing checklists. Only players collectors are going to want every card from every set. Most people are happy just getting a couple and moving onto the next player. Topps just needs to produce the "next player"
DeleteDo you have this Taillon? Mine has a white swatch

Yeah, I do have that one.
