2017 Topps Archives Postseason Signature Manny Sanguillen /99
I recently just talked about this card when I showcased a Tony Pena and Tony Womack from this set. Just a few days after that post I won this bad boy on eBay.
This is Manny Sanguillen's first certified auto. Knowing that Manny has some of the better cards out there, I'm far from done searching these out. I had hoped that the prices would calm down a little, but I think other Pirate fans shared my enthusiasm. 81 Topps does a good job capturing Manny's trademark enthusiasm and smile.
Happy Friday folks. I had planned on closing my birthday contest, but the response has been really good. I'll keep it going another day. Join here.... Thanks so much for all the kind words.
Thanks for reading!
Congrats!!!!!!!!!! Your happiness at having this card is palpable.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about collecting cards is when a Pirate gets their first certified auto. It amazes me that it took a company this long to have Sanguillen sign. He was a beloved player and still is very visible to this day. He has the restaurant that is named after him in the park and is part of many team functions.
DeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteI thought so too!
DeleteI think a few of us should just create fake logins and keep posting in the birthday thread. See how long we can drag it out.....
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed that I didn't have 257 comments.
DeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you sir!
DeleteNice card -- like you said, it's a great photo of Sanguillen. I thought about buying one of these (not necessarily the 1981) on eBay, but have decided to hold off so far.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the first that I saw go below $10. That is saying something considering that their are a ton of variations.
DeleteWhat a neat card/photo/auto! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jared!
DeleteI just love the photo lol
ReplyDeleteIt sums up Sanguillen perfectly.
DeleteCongrats. I picked up 2 of the Manny cards myself along with a Tim Wakefield and Tony Pena. I'm still hoping that one of the team cards was signed by Marte.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday btw
I've tried a few times to win a Wakefield, but like Sanguillen was surprised at how high they sell.
Deletewooooo! well done!
ReplyDeleteThe '81 was most likely the first Manny Sanguillen card I ever owned, and now, all these years later, it's still my favorite of his -- and Sanguillen himself remains one of my absolute favorites to collect.
ReplyDeleteHe is fun to collect because of the quality of the cards and cheap prices.
DeleteWhat a great card! The 1981 Topps set is one of my favorites, and that jovial expression on Manny's face make his was one the set's better cards!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to get one featuring him in the catchers gear next. He has sooooo many great releases.
DeleteAwesome card! Would have thought Topps would have included him in their Fan Favorites sets years ago.
ReplyDeleteFan Favorites would have been perfect, but I feel that set has lost its focus. It has been rehashing players and picking ones that at least in my eyes weren't fan favorites.
DeleteI used to have a card signed by him at a card show that was in the Mountainlair when I was a kid. I remember he was gruff and didn’t even bother to look up at me.
ReplyDeleteThat is surprising. I've been around him a few times at PNC and he was always his jovial self.
