Back in April I featured the 1/1 of Mike Spanky Lavalliere. I was way too excited to own that card as Spanky was a fan favorite and I love finding rare cards of guys not featured in modern sets that had autos and relics.
You can't have Spanky without Sluggo....
2012 Leaf Memories Buy Back 1/1 Don Slaught
I picked this up last month for around $10 if my memory serves me correctly. Slaught was the offensive catcher while Spanky was known as a defensive specialist. An odd mix but the Pirates found a good bit of success utilizing both catchers skill set. Both had OPS+ well above 100 during their Pirate playing days. 100 is considered major league average.
Yay for cheap 1/1's!
Very cool! I wish I could find the Rick Leach 1/1 from the 1990 buyback but I haven't seen it pop up since it sold a couple years ago. I'll keep an eye out for these for you just in case, though, since like you said they're not ridiculously expensive for 1/1s.
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping an eye out. They are fun chase cards of some great early 90s names.
DeleteI haven''t had the opportunity to own a buyback yet, but it doesn't seem like my thing. Those are nice though. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at Slaught Machine. I wish I was better at creating titles for my posts.
They are a fun modern twist to the early 90s junk wax cards. I've been chasing them as they are some of my favorite names during that time period.
DeleteMan. What an on-slaught.
ReplyDeleteSgt.Slaught-er?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't slaught this comment in between you guys.
