Excessive Celebration

I was in DC this weekend visiting friends so I didn't get to see what was probably the best Pirates game in the last couple of years. Coming back in the 8th, 10th and 14th it was arguably the most exciting game since the Wildcard victory against the Reds.

On the call was Greg Brown and Steve Blass. Brown is known for losing his mind on games like this so the call was fitting. He is the ultimate homer and borderline cheesy sometimes, but I felt it was a pretty good call. The poor guy became a full time announcer right at the beginning of the Pirates historic losing streak so he gets a free pass for as long as he wants. As usual Steve Blass doesn't add much substance as he can only spit out "Oh my God" the first 30 seconds.

I thought the National broadcast from Fox was a better call, but the local Pirates announcers made for a better video.

Either way it was a fun game.

  1. That game wouldn't have had to go to extra innings if the umpires had called that Reynolds correctly.

Although seeing AJ Burnett hit a bomb off of John Lackey was very satisfying. Mainly because the two are a study in contrast in awesomeness.

    1. The Pirates have been burned by that same play twice in a weeks time period. I'm guessing they will probably have to make that a reviewable play.

  2. The best all-time in Pittsburgh might be hyperbole, but the Pirates are tearing it up right now, that's for sure.

    1. Yeah he got caught up in the moment. My guess he was trying to say PNC Park.

    2. It's been a really fun season for the Buccos. I have a bit of a soft spot for the Pirates, even though I was a Reds fan as a kid, when the Pirates were battling Atlanta in the early 90s I was pulling for Pittsburgh.

    3. The magic continued last night too. What a great series. Nice to end the unofficial first half on such a high note.

  3. Steve Blass annoys the hell out of me. Unbelievable game.

  4. The way Cutch crossed the plate was pure AWESOMENESS! I personally think that if you hit a walk off home run... you can do just about anything you want as long as it's not directed at the opposing team, the officiating crew, or the hometown fans (if you're a visiting team). Cutch is a class act.

    1. Usually walk off homers are given a pass by the baseball police. That has been my favorite moment so far this year.
