All the Fancy Words

1999 Fleer Ultra Platinum Medallion Edition Ed Sprague /50

I'm trying to alternate trade package and new card post to keep things interesting up to Xmas. So many cards, so little time!

The run of late 90's early 2000's parallels continue. I love how Ultra gave this parallel an ultra fancy name by calling it Platinum Medallion. SO LUXURIOUS! While these are not as sought after as the Super Rave parallel I showed off last week they can still can be hard to find. The other issue is that you really need to find a seller on eBay that has other cards you need so you don't pay more for shipping than the actual card. I believe I paid .99 for the card and picked up a few other Pirate parallels from the same era to use the combined shipping.

This is the drink of choice tonight as my Mountaineer play in state rival Marshall in basketball.  Let's Go Mountaineers!

Thanks for reading.

  1. I always like the Plat Medallion versions. My favorite are 1996 Gold Medallions. So pretty.

    1. Hopefully I can continue my good luck and find some more parallels. When I'm on eBay I don't search out guys like Ed Sprague. Have to rely on the seller either listing "Pirates" or specifics of the set.

    1. Ha. That guy probably lives pretty close to me. Founders Brewing is actually out of Michigan. They are probably my favorite brewery as they have a high end example of just about every imaginable style.

  4. Those beers aged in bourbon barrels are dangerous. Often very tasty, but also often about 10% alcohol...meaning that they have as much alcohol as many white wines!

    1. I think this one is 11.7%! Drink with caution. The highest ABV beer I've had was Dogfish 120. I think if you have more than 1 you go blind.

  5. I had no clue Ed Sprague was still active in '99. Also, that's a fine looking adult beverage.

    1. Sprague played for the Blue Jays for a long time....the short stop in Pittsburgh was at the tail end. He provided some pop, but wasn't much of a fielder so he was close to a replacement level player.

The beer is delicious. So much flavor.
