2017 Donruss Optic Ivan Nova Autograph

Not the nicest looking card you will find, but it's Ivan Nova's first certified auto as a Bucco. Kuddos to Panini for branching out their Pirate checklists in 2017.  I've been able to snag this Nova and a David Freese auto in a two week span.  Topps continues to rehash the same veteran Buccos over and over.  I get having big rookies in every set, but maybe after the 50th Starling Marte auto we could try someone else.......just a thought.

Nova has come back to earth his last 10 starts, but his overall body of work has been solid when you consider the bargain contract the Pirates gave (3yr 26mil).  Relievers have been getting those type of deals so the Buccos have to be happy to get some cheap innings.

I have my fingers crossed that Francisco Cervelli and Felipe Rivero get an auto soon!

  1. I've been paying more attention to Cervelli these days. not to the point of collecting him but it could happen!

    1. He probably is a tad bit underrated when he is actually healthy. Just doesn't hit for power which some people still think you have to do as a catcher for some reason.

  2. How does Rivero not have a certified auto yet? Wow.

How about this for a set idea? 90 card set, with three on-card autographs per team, each of a NON All-Star? I don't think it would break the bank for collectors, especially those who want to cherry pick singles on-line. But each year they could bring back the set and then pick... wait for it... DIFFERENT players to fill the 90 card checklist.
I think it would be a fun little exercise to go back to 2013 and pick three (Insert Your Team Here) from each squad up until now.

    1. Rivero was originally a Rays prospect and he has few autos from his time in the minors, but that is it.

Love your idea. I think your auto subset would be perfect if they ever brought Topps Total back.

    1. Sure did. Pretty intricate/large signature for only having 8 letters.

  4. I want a Mercer, Jaso, Frazier, Rivero, and Trevor Williams auto.

Mercer, Williams and Rivero are top of my list. I wish we got a Liriano or Watson certified auto before they were traded.

    1. If Rivero stays in the closer roll I'm sure he'll probably get one. It's kind of rare for a guy like Mercer who has been a starter for a long time now still have nothing other than some obscure USA autos and Elite in his Oklahoma St uniform.

  5. I love the shine of Donruss Optic cards. Hope someone at Topps reads this posts and listens to your suggestion.

    1. I just don't see it working because their would not be enough bang for you buck for the case busters. My hope is maybe a retail only product.
