A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts recently held a contest celebrating post #168! He was so excited about his upcoming 200th post that he rounded up. The contest had a great turnout and after the randomizer I finished dead last. Jon likes the lovable loser so he sent me a consolation prize.
I was pumped not only to receive cards from Jon, but this also broke the trading ice between us. I always enjoy his posts and look forward to this starting a long fruitful trading relationship as well. Love getting cards from new people!
Now for my participation award.
Black Diamond seemed so classy when it came out. I remember people going crazy for players like JD Drew. I remember paying for a small retail box of these at a Kmart and thought it was the coolest thing ever. This Jose Guillen is numbered to /3000
The Pirates cut ties with Tony Womack way too early. It would take years for them to find another decent leadoff hitter.

I enjoy the Prizm sets. Makes you long for a Panini baseball license. This is a very patriotic parallel.
John Reger looks like he is 60 years old. Probably a steady diet of scotch and red meat.
You don't hear wide receivers called flankers much anymore. It was cool of Jon to throw me some vintage football. Probably the least represented type of card in my collection.
Guys like Al Martin are always fun for me to collect because they played in the mid to late 90's. I find this one of the more fun eras to collect because of the perfect combination of variety and weirdness.

Jose Guillen is another one in that beloved era. This cards checks a lot of boxes for me. I have such a soft spot for any Pacific brand. Extra bonus for it being a mini.

vintage football cards are so visually appealing! i can't collect them. no room. but do love seeing them on the blogs!

DeleteOh man, I loved those numbered/color Black Diamond parallels! I dig the vintage football too, and my unsung favorite is the Martin Refractor since '97 Topps is probably my favorite set design.

DeleteJon is very generous. He's sent more than a few Prizm basketball cards my way. Panini makes some fantastic cards; I wish they had a baseball license. They did quite well with hockey for 3-4 years or so.

DeleteI'm glad you liked the cards. I too was a fan of Tony Womack's, even though I mostly only saw him play later in his career with the Yankees.
ReplyDeleteWomack ended up having a nice long career. You just don't see the really small/fast leadoff hitters as much. Everything is obp focused now.
