Her First Game

My wife and I decided to venture out this evening and let my daughter experience her first baseball game. Considering she is only two, she did very well. She made it 7 innings and clapped to her little hands were red. Predicting the early departure my wife was nice enough to drive separately so I could stay and watch the whole game.

The game had great flow today as the Black Bears won 4 to 3 over the Staten Island Yankees. The game finished the sweep and was the Black Bears 9th straight win. Pirates first round pick Kevin Newman had the big hit that scored what proved to be the winning run.

The game was another sell out as the Black Bears have been a huge draw so far this summer

LIES! If your daughter had stuck around maybe the Yankees would've won.

    1. We bought standing room tickets so we could roam around the first few innings. Once the she started getting tired we were able to hold her for the next few innings.

  3. She has no idea what a big moment this was in her young life as a loyal baseball fan. Such a great picture! On another note, the park has a nice view!

    2. The park is a top a huge hill so you can see for miles on a clear day. Hopefully by next season she will be starting to grasp what she is watching a little more.

    3. Tom- You need to hit PNC again soon and take the short trip south to catch a Black Bears game!

  4. Wow, she did pretty well for a two-year-old! Please continue bringing her to games that cause Yankees-related teams to lose.

    1. Ha. She might make a good politician one day because she was clapping for both teams. I'll have to teach her to despise other teams.

  5. Love it! Very cool! 7 innings for a two year old is great and that was super nice of your wife to drive separate!

    1. My wife rarely goes to games with me because I always like to stay to the end. Having a stadium 5 minutes away from the house gives us that nice option.

  6. My daughter would always pass out on me by the fifth or sixth inning at that age haha, nothing better than a family day at the ballpark She's 7 now and has a crush on Freddie Freeman, they grow up fast.

Looks like we have the next Pirates girl.

    1. Yikes...I would probably disown my daughter if she screamed like that. I'll have to teach her more respectful heckling rather than just screaming at the top of her lungs.

I think my daughter liked the mascot the best. She probably gave him 10 high fives. At least your daughter likes the best player!

    2. She yelled it the whole game ALL 19 INNINGS

  7. I'm with the group that says seven innings is amazing. My daughter is almost 16 now, and without her Gameboy going seven innings would be sheer torture. So count your lucky stars for being blessed with one that can go that long.

    1. We'll see once she is of age to really grasp where she is at. She might not even want to go. I still won't attempt a Pirates game with her for another year or two. The Black Bears will be a perfect compromise.

By the way I got a couple business cards for you!

    1. We had a good time. Like I said above, we were kind of anticipating a meltdown so we were pleasantly surprised. Now I can use her as an excuse to get to more games!

    1. It was fun to see her clap for every play. She is the most diplomatic baseball fan in history.

  10. Very cool family moment. The Black Bears sure play in a nicer ballpark than my local SJ Giants. Heck. Looks nicer than the Oakland Coliseum ;)

    1. It really is a nice stadium. The stadium itself was just the first stage. The area will be getting a lot of new restaurants and shops, hotels and another exit ramp off of the highway to help traffic flow.
