This and That From Boston

My wife and I had a good time in Boston.  We didn't hit all the sites, but for the short time we were there I thought we did well.  Any town that has a strong history always makes for a fun trip. You can spend the majority of the day looking around without having to spend a fortune to see every site. I think the only fee we had was $10 to see the Old Statehouse. Transportation costs were kept at a minimum by using the T or Uber.

Boston also hits all the marks with food and drink.  Towns that are near the sea are the best. Being that I live in West Virginia makes it hard to find a good seafood dinner.  Always look forward to fresh seafood.

Here are some pics.  I just threw them all in at once so these are going to be in absolutely no order.

Fenway is as advertised.  It was just neat to walk around the concourse area and take it all in. The Blue Jays were in town this weekend so it was cool to see all the old Pirates.  Guys like Russell Martin (he homered!), Jose Bautista (he homered too!), Ja Happ and Jason Grilli were all on the roster. I think the Red Sox only have Brock Holt as a former Pirates.

This is a cool shot that my wife took.  The weather wasn't cooperating too much but they got the game in.
 Another perspective from our seats.

This guy had a noble death. His clam and mussel friends died for a worthy cause too.  This was delicious.
Always fun to see a little live music. If you see some older guys get ready to play at an Irish bar do yourself a favor and watch them.  You will be guaranteed good music and an even better sense of humor.
This is the view of the balcony at the Old Statehouse.  The Declaration of Independence was read from here.
 Paul Revere's house.
I've always loved oysters, but now my wife has been developing a taste for them.  Gives me an excuse to order some nice ones as appetizers.
This is a view of the Union Oyster House.  Sam Adams brews a beer just for them to serve its customers. It is a brown ale and very tasty.
Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.  Our hotel was just across the street from there.
 Inside Faneuil Hall.
The finish line for the Boston Marathon.

The graveyard was closing for visitors by the time we made it there.  My wife being the TMZ photographer that she is didn't let that stop her from nabbing a couple of pics. This is the gravestone of the Boston Massacre victims.
 Sam Adams gravestone.
I learned my wife will wait forever in order to get a cannoli.
One of my favorite things to do when travelling is to partake in the local beer.  I drank a lot of New England beers that you can't get my way.

Pictured here was my one indulgence on the trip. As you can these are pours of Sam Adams Utopias. These beers are special brews that have a price tag between $250 and $300 retail.  This bar offered small pours for $28.  Ridiculous......yeah I know, but I would never pay the retail price for a full bottle so it gave me the opportunity to try something I normally wouldn't have.

The smell of the beer is very strong, but the taste I would liken to a cognac or light whiskey.  Very smooth.

One last shot.

Go to Boston.  You will have fun.

    1. It is a fun trip. Ours was booked on short notice so we probably didn't get as good of a deal had we planned more.

  2. You showed a lot of places that I saw. I've been to Fenway 3 times. Different spot each time, which is great to get a whole perspective of the park.

Oh, and I'd stand in line all day for a cannoli, too.

    1. My wife liked the cannoli so much we went back the day we were leaving so she could have another one.

I love the field level seating at Fenway. It would be fun to sit on top of the Monster, but it costs sooooooo much.

  3. Boston looks like fun. I'm not a seafood person but I'm huge US history and baseball history nerd so a trip like this would be awesome.

    1. You should go. Plenty of other types of food to choose from. My wife and I had two nice meals in little Italy.

  4. I could eat raw oysters like those all day. Literally. I am salivating having seen them. It's like the only thing I've seen on this page.

I'm going to Boston in the fall of 2017 for an ABA meeting (Pinehurst Resort next week!) so I'm already looking forward to it.

    1. They were so good. I had them twice while I was gone, but only showcased my favorites. Boston is not allowed to do happy hour with drinks so they do it with food. Many places will do $1 oysters!

Worth $28? I can't think of any liquid in that amount I see being worth $28. Unless it's liquid gold.

    And not Veleeta liquid gold.

  7. Thanks for posting. I too love history and I love old architecture so I really enjoyed seeing your pictures. I actually have a relative who fought in the battles of Lexington and Concord.

    1. You would love Boston if you haven't been. So much to do and if you are staying in town it is very walkable.

    2. I'm not too big on cities, so I've never gotten there. I did go to a card show in Taunton several times that was about 40 minutes away though.

    3. Boston has a little bit of a different feel than most big cities. It doesn't have some sprawling skyline like NYC or Chicago. Lots of smaller buildings and interesting neighborhoods.

  8. Was the cannoli from Mike's pastry in the North End? That place does crazy amounts of business. Was your lobster meal from Union Oyster House? What did you think of the locals driving? We're known as Massholes for a reason. Jaywalking is encouraged.

    1. It was from Mikes! That place is a freaking gold mine. My wife will wait forever for a cannoli.

The oysters were from Union Oyster House, but the lobster was from another seafood restaurant right on the water.

The driving reminded me of NYC. I saw some close calls with pedestrians.

    2. Legal Sea Foods? No Name Restaurant? That plate looked delicious and was curious as to which restaurant you ate at.

    3. It was the Legal Seafood Harborside. Nice place.

  9. Looks like you had a great trip! Fenway is such a neat place and looks like you made it to a lot of the historical sites.

My wife and I went to Boston on our honeymoon and we made multiple trips to Mike's pastry. That place is great.

  10. Matt. You should have looked me up. Would have met you downtown. Live only 1/2 hour out of town. Glad you enjoyed the visit. If your into history it's a great place to poke around.
