Short Walk

The Pirates are a couple years removed from having Neil Walker on the active roster. Supposedly the Bucs had made an offer to keep him around, but the two sides could never come to terms. Kind of weird that Walker had to settle for so little this offseason, but I'm sure the Yankees didn't mind. Hard to believe that more teams weren't interested at one year 4 million.  While never the most durable he has been crazy consistent over the past 7 years.  2-3 WAR players don't grow on trees.

2013 Topps Mini Neil Walker 1/1

I don't actively search for Walker cards these days.  My collection has most of the rookies and key autographs. Most of my needs are parallels which I don't actively chase.

The card above sort of just fell into my lap. I was searching around for some trade bait and discovered a seller that was auctioning off a bunch numbered Topps mini cards. Turns out he had a 1/1 Platinum Walker.  For $10.50 I was able to add it to my collection. While nothing special looks wise it is always fun to add a rare card for a good price.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Just over a Hamilton is a good price if you ask me.

    1. I thought so too. Don't get to add many Walker's these days so I was excited.

  2. I was just singing the praises of Topps Mini in the post where you sent me those Blank Backs. They really do feel more like what flagship should be (at least after the box prices bottomed out). I'm glad you were able to find something for your collection at a fair price too! $10.50 for a "true" 1/1 is quite reasonable for sure.

    1. The seller was getting good money for some of the big names. He had a low numbered Machado rookie that went for a lot.

  3. Neil Walker man, I was perfectly okay with the Yankees signing him and I still think he deserves a longer and better look but based on the first impression alone (which is a BS small sample size) he might join several in a long line of failed second basemen in the post-Cano era.

    1. I was going to say - I was all for him too and still think he’ll contribute. He’s played a good 1B though. Just hasn’t hit.

    2. Walker and Cutch were both slow starters every year with the Pirates. The guy has always hit so I just assume with playing time the bat will play.

    3. I'm guessing since Torres is up Walker won't be playing much at all.

  4. Congratulations on picking up a new 1/1 for your collection. I haven't done that in quite some time. Might need to search for a new Suzuki for my PC.

    1. I don't really search for 1/1's but I was happy this one fell into my lap.

  5. Neil Walker was what you want from your role players on teams. He will likely never be an all star, but gave the team his best performance night in and out. And you never heard about any off field drama with him.

    1. He was a perfect fit for our playoff teams. A flawed player, but soooo much production from second base.
