Plaschke Makes me Feel the Excitement

Well, it is fun to trade with someone that works at a card shop. In case you don't know Greg of Plaschke, thy Sweater is Argyle fame is a man that wears many hats.  One such hat is having access to all kinds of great cardboard at his job.

 Five Star autos are the thickest cards on the planet.  They also have sweet on card autos! What a great surprise when I saw this Marte.

 Most of my Steeler pickups these days are via blog trading.  The desire is there, but just not enough cash to go around after my Pirate and WVU pickups.  Back when I did pick up Steelers regularly, Hines Ward was my favorite. This is a great looking Finest rookie of the former Steeler great.

 Kevin Jones was the perfect college player.  He got better all four years in college.  He saw a little time with the Cavs two years ago, but mainly has been in the D league.

 As usual I always end up reading about old players.  This is Johnny Rizzo and he holds the record for most rbis in a game for the Pirates (9).  I do love the Play Ball cards.

 I don't have much in the way of vintage Steelers.  All old timey football players look like the stereotypical gym teacher from my elementary school years.

Did you see the Rams paid Tavon Austin something like 44 million guaranteed.  Good for him! That probably gets him close to being the highest grossing NFL player in WVU history.

Nice to see Jedd Gyorko have a balance back season.  The WVU baseball team is starting to produce more high draft talent.

 Back in the day when I busted packs of all sports, Contenders was my favorite football product.

 I didn't remember the Kuwata card.  This was a straight publicity stunt by the Pirates as Kuwata was already 39 years old by the time he got to Pittsburgh.  He got shelled.

 This is my childhood there. I remember fighting my brother over SI Kids cards.

 The Pearce is /299. I'm happy to see him turn himself into a solid major leaguer. He just couldn't stay healthy for the Bucs.

My First 2014 Allen and Ginter Card

2014 Allen & Ginter Jason Grilli Mini 1/1

Excuse the poor picture as I had to use my phone.  Big thanks goes out to Greg from Plaschke Thy Sweater is Argyle as he is the one who brought this auction to my attention.  Grilli cards have never been that expensive, but are now even more affordable after he was dealt to the Angles.  This 1/1 was purchased last week for around $15.  Good price for a 1/1!

Greg from PTSIA and I have swapped cards a few times now.  He is one of several Dodger bloggers who I've swapped cards with since I started Bob Walk the Plank.  Yesterday I received a bubble mailer from Greg full of fun Pirate and WVU cardboard.....check it out.  Please excuse the crappy pictures as I'm unable to make it to my desktop computer and have to take all my pics with my phone.

Trade: Plaschke, Thy Sweater is Argyle

I have been following Greg's blog for a long time.  When I decided to start one of my own he was the first person I contacted to get some pointers.  Having a nice backlog of Dodger cards I began sending care packages to Greg as a thank you for helping me out and plugging the blog.  On Monday I received a nice surprise in the mail.  Check out some of the stuff Greg passed along my way.....

Brian Giles had a great career with the Pirates.  A while back I went and researched his stats and they were crazy good his entire run as a Pirate.  What makes it even sweeter was the Pirates got him for basically nothing from the Indians.   Love the Topps 206 Auto.

This card has a very interesting back story.  Patel and Rinku Singh are the first Indian nationals to sign with an American sports team.  They won an Indian Reality show called Million Dollar Arm and were signed by the Pirates without ever playing baseball.  The story is being turned into a movie starring Jon Hamm from Mad Men.

Greg sent me some cool minis as well.  I really appreciate the Martin because he doesn't have much in the Pirates uniform.  I'm really hoping for some autos and relics in the upcoming 2014 releases.

I'm glad Jose Bautista developed into a great player.  Just wish it was with the Pirates.  We basically gave him away for a minor league catcher.  If you are wondering why a Jedd Gyorko is mixed in here it is because Jedd went to WVU like myself.  I have a big WVU collection to go along with the Buccos.
