Charles Sims was drafted in the third round by the Tampa Bay Bucs. Sims only played one year for the Mountaineers, but he proved to be their most valuable offensive threat. It will be interesting to see how Sims turns out as he was one of the few dual purpose backs in the draft
Mike Fox was a defensive lineman for the Mountaineers who was drafted by the Giants in 1990. He went on to have a 10 year career split between the Giants and Carolina Panthers.
This is where Doug dropped some knowledge on me. Little did I know that professional wrestler Heath Slater is from West Virginia. On the back of the card it says he attended West Virginia University, but I couldn't find anything to back it up. My buddy Micah did a little research for me and found some evidence that he might have went to Potomac State and played basketball. Potomac State is affiliated with WVU as a junior college so this makes a little sense. Either way he is from West Virginia which is something I did not know.
It will be interesting to see how Geno Smith does this year with the Jets. I fear the first foul up will result in Michael Vick taking over.
Tavon Austin is perhaps the most explosive player in WVU history. It will be interesting to see if the Rams decide to give him more than 2 touches a game.
Thanks for the cards Doug. Always nice to learn something with the Heath Slater card. I might have to start a little wrestling collection!
I wouldn't worry about Vick taking over for Geno, Vick is toast, he was awful for the Eagles the last 2 years.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are right. Vick has that big name value. If Geno struggles a couple games in a row and the boo birds come out, I'm worried about what might happen.
