Top Play and a Great Deal

I went to the WVU baseball game against Pitt last night. The Mountaineers took the loss, but we made the top play on SportsCenter.
That was quite the catch!

Views from my seat.

It was a beautiful night for a game. Perfect temps and a nice crowd of over 3,000. That number is pretty impressive as the spring semester ended last week so many students have went home for summer vacation. The new stadium seems to be a hit. In about a month the Black Bears will begin play!

Now for a new card!

2014 Immaculate Collection Cole/Ryu Dual Patch /10

One of these popped up last month in which I proceeded to be outbid at the last second. I was pissed because the final selling price was around $13 which seemed like a pretty good deal considering the rarity and the set. Losing the card proved to be a blessing as the one pictured sold for a whopping $4.25!

I went back to try and see if the card was listed poorly, but other than not mentioning "patches" it seemed like a decent description. In the long run if you buy enough cards off of eBay, you are bound to have some fall in your lap.

On a side note every time I see Ryu I automatically think of Street Fighter.

HADOUKEN!

He should yell that when he pitches.

WVU vs Butler (Grand Opening Pictures)

I posted some press release photos of the new baseball stadium that will be shared by WVU and the West Virginia Black Bears on Friday, but figured I would show some in person pics that my wife took. Overall the experience was very positive. Right now the stadium holds around 3000, but once some landscaping items are completed their will be some outfield reserve tickets as well.

The main issues right now are parking as the lots won't be finished until sometime next year. Thankfully the University got the support of the nearby businesses and allowed game traffic to park for free. Traffic was a small issue as right now their is only one way to reach the stadium which caused some traffic congestion before the game. The long term solution is that a new interstate entrance is being added which will alleviate any congestion. I'm guessing that will be a couple of years before that is opened.

The walk down from a nearby business.
They did a really nice job to take advantage of the scenic aspects of our state.
Still lots of work to complete.

Pregame ceremonies. The Pirates had many higher ups in attendance including team owner Bob Nutting.

WVU getting ready to take the field.
A retired 4 Star General who is a WVU grad threw out the first pitch.

A nice panoramic of the stadium.

WVU won the game in walkoff fashion in 13 innings so the sell out crowd went home happy. I'm very excited for the upcoming Black Bear stadium.

Happy for the game winner! The old man was not impressed.

Grand Opening!

Tonight I will be attending WVU's first baseball game in the brand new Monongalia County Ballpark. I'm hoping a more creative name will come soon, but that might be better than some weird company sponsor. The opening is occurring about a month late as bad weather put the project behind schedule. The original opener had WVU matching up with Waynesburg college to commemorate WVU's first ever baseball game. Now that we are so far in the season that game could not be rescheduled. WVU's opponent tonight is Butler.

What I'm most excited about is the West Virginia Black Bears who will begin play in June and will be sharing the stadium with WVU. The team is affiliated with the Pirates and will be part of the short season New York-Penn League. Nice that they incorporated WVU's blue and gold.

Here are some pics of the stadium taken by the University for a press release today. Hopefully I'll get some good in person pictures tonight.

As you will be able to tell their is still a ton of work to do outside the stadium. The parking lots won't be done until next year as well as the landscaping.

One of the nice aspects of the stadium is that you get a nice view of the countryside as the backdrop.

The stadium is only about 5 minutes away from my house so it should make for something to do when I can't make it up to Pittsburgh for the Pirate games.
