Please Make Fun of me

The beauty about collecting cards is that no wrong way exists. Most are just bound by finances and time. People that worry about the way others collect have their priorities messed up. Sure it gets annoying seeing people on Twitter who PC Mike Trout, Bryce Harper and Steph Curry at the same time, but too each his own.  It's your money and if you want to collect the flavor of the week so be it. The unfollow button is just a click away if it bothers you.

My collecting style is all about variety. I like to jump set from set trying to accumulate cards that interest me. Every so often I go back and look at cards I've accumulated and one will pop out that leaves me with that "what the hell was I thinking" feeling.

Such was the case with this card.....

2014 National Treasures Flawless Honus Wagner Dumb as Shit Diamond Card /20

I'm probably one of the least critical people when it comes to card design. I often look past aesthetics if it is a Pirate that is rarely featured on a card or from an obscure set.  Sometimes a crazy look is what draws me to a set (like any 90's insert). These Flawless diamond cards are just too much for me.

Maybe I had too many bourbon barrel stouts one evening and was trying to shop for myself and my wife at the same time.  /chugs beer "pretty diamonds....oh this Honus Wagner card is nice too." I remember finally getting this card in the mail and just shaking my head.  Usually I would showoff a unique Honus Wagner card, but the buyers remorse was just too much for me.  It had to be relegated to my basement for 3 years.

Now I can at least look at this card more from a comical point of view.  Maybe even as more time passes I'll view it like some diecut, lightning bolt/hologrammed card from Pacific. Who knows, if times get tough I can pawn the actual diamond for the .37 it is likely worth.  Someday when I die my daughter will look through my cards and realize that the reason she couldn't go to a nice private college was that Dad bought cards with diamonds in it.  Sorry honey, hope you enjoyed your time at University of Northwest Southeast Delaware Trucker Tech.

Alright guys let me have it.

  1. It's almost like you looked into my drafts. I have started one that also mentions people collecting Trout, Harper, etc. and how old and boring it is.

    1. People can collect what they want. If I had unlimited funds I would probably collect them too. Most of the time you know they are just flipping them when they get them and their "pc" list changes accordingly.

  2. I don't seem to see anywhere how much you paid for it. That would have some serious significance as to how much I make fun of you.
On the other hand, if your post does say how much you paid for it and I missed it, you can make fun of me.

    1. Ha...I couldn't actually remember. I looked at some similar sell prices so I'm guessing in the $30 range, but I really have no clue.

  3. Hahaha! This post cracked me up. I have a few of these kinds of cards. If you need a Waner to match your Wagner let me know. Lol!

    1. They look great....I just don't appreciate them. If I was a player collector I would probably like them more, but as a team collector it just doesn't really have a purpose.

  4. I won't make fun you, but your last line did crack me up! If anybody should be made fun of, it's Panini for thinking this is a good idea...or really, the people who payed $1200 for a single pack, which is what the NBA version of the set sold for...I have not picked up any of the actual diamond cards but I was able to pick up an autograph for very cheap on COMC. Under $5. It's of Jeff Green, but it didn't matter to me who was on it, just that I could find a cheap card from the set so it would be represented in my collection.

    1. Any card is fair game for under $5. If I had paid that for the Wagner I probably wouldn't ever write this post. I have tons of stupid looking cards, but most were super cheap.

  5. Didn't see any in the last eBay search, but I'll keep any eye out for more dumb as shit parallels to send your way!

    1. Maybe if I ever sell this card I'll put that in the listing title.

    1. That has a better story than some shitty diamond card!

  7. But you have your own card!

  8. I probably have buyer's remorse a few times a year... so it'd be wrong for me to judge this purchase. Actually... this card is pretty cool. At least it has a diamond embedded into it. Some of us will never be able to say we have a card that contains a diamond.

    1. I rarely get buyers remorse.....more times than not it is just spending an amount out of my comfort zone. This is probably the first time I've had over how the card looked.

  9. I keep buying cards for which I already have one or two or three copies of because I'm a graduate of the University of Northwest Southeast Delaware Trucker Tech School of Dumbassery.
