1999 Fleer Skybox Premium Star Rubies Jason Kendall /50

After showing off the ugliest card ever I feel like my blog needed a cleanse.  I needed to show something that is more in my comfort zone.  Enter late 90's parallels! 

I've shown a few star rubies cards since I started blogging, but this is by far the biggest name. Kendall and Brian Giles were the faces of the franchise in the late 90's. He was such a unique talent being that he was a catcher who had above average speed. Plus you have to go all the way back to Kent Tekulve to find someone with as many cool cards as Jason Kendall.  This is probably in my top three all time Kendall cards.

I'm slowly forgetting that SP Signature Edition card from yesterday....

Rare Rubies

I have had a good run lately finding some harder to get Buccos. Of cards that I actively search for none are more harder to find than late 90's early 00's parallels. Thankfully the Buccos didn't have any big names at this time so this keeps the prices under control.

A few months back I posted a 1999 Star Rubies Jason Schmidt /50.  I loved the card and knew other Buccos existed in the set, but hadn't seen any hit eBay since I posted back in March.  Well, a few weeks back the Jose Guillen was put up for auction.

The total was just a shade below $10 which was similar to what I paid for the Schmidt.  Originally I thought I had overpaid, but after reviewing completed auctions that is within the range for common players such as Guillen. Maybe I could have found it for a few bucks cheaper down the road, but securing card now outweighed the desire to save a few bucks.  Plus with these type of cards it is never a guarantee that they will pop up again.

Star Rubies (Schmidt Happens)

I've spent the last couple hours sorting through cards to send to some trade partners. I love Sportlots, but receiving a million envelopes in a week can make some sorting nightmares. Hopefully by the end of the week I can have a mass mailing.  Also, I'm down to 3 trade packages to showoff. So Brian and Jeff I will get to yours soon and John I'm still sorting through your monster box.

I'm always way too excited when I win late 90's early 2000's parallels. They take some time to track down and the prices can be all over the place.  The bad thing is when they show up you are best advised too take a stab at winning them because you never know when the next might hit. That can lead to overpays. 

The seller of this card is a guy who has been liquidating his Pirates collection the better part of the last year. It had been a while since I purchased off of him, but his last wave of auctions had several cards I was interested in, with this Schmidt being the big get. While I overpaid for this card (~$8) I was able to secure some other good cards at better deals and at a nice combined shipping rate. 

You have to love the Star Rubies cards. They are much shinier than the scan can show. Hopefully I can find a few more Pirates from this set.
