@Pinstriped Cards

Its always fun when a non blogger stumbles upon BWTP. Some of these people have turned into my favorite trade partners.  One such person is Peter who goes by @Pinstripedcards on Twitter.  According to my blog records Peter and I first swapped cards in 2014.  Now that I'm on Twitter it is even easier to communicate, so I'm guessing the trading will pick up now.  

Peter passed word along that this shipment came courtesy of his daughter who is a big time Yankees collector as well.  It was a bubble mailer stuffed full of Pirate goodness.  Let's check out a few of my favorites. 

Being that this card is showcased prominently on my homepage I had to show it off first.

Having Walk and the Candy Man back to back is probably a crime against humanity.  You just can't have so much rugged handsomeness in one place.

I've proclaimed my love for manager cards about 10 million times over the lifespan of my blog.

I've been on a nice run the last few weeks getting obscure UD sets in trade.  I feel like some type of 40 man or Topps Total set could come back as a retail exclusive.

Topps fell in love with gold borders in the late 90's.  All four of these cards feature unique shots. Kind of odd that none of them feature great looks of the players actual faces. 

Always nice to receive an assortment of Cutch cards.  His trade hasn't really sunk in yet as I expect it won't hit home until opening day. I'm actually trying to head out to San Francisco in August to watch the Pirates/Giants series.  Obviously I'll get to see Cutch which would is cool, but the extra bonus is that the Giants are retiring Barry Bonds jersey.

Legend Buccos. Love the Ginter Clemente.

Both Heredia and Kingham are featured in the Pirates Spring Training gold uniforms.  Every year I hope they add this jersey as their alternate for the season, but for whatever reason they never do.

Signing Heredia was a big deal for the Pirates. He was their biggest international signing ever. The fact that he was released in November never making it past AA makes him one of the biggest busts in Pirates history.

I've always loved Bowman Platinum.  Obviously people love Chrome, but I think the Platinum cards were just as nice.

Peter Pags Picked a Pack of Cards

Blog reader Peter who goes by @Pinstripedcards on Twitter recently hit me up with another great package full of Buccos.  I think this marks the third time I've received cards from the Yankees fanatic. As usual it is always a nice mix of old and new.......and super rare/awesome/life changing like this first card. 

Look at how effortless a 120mph fastball looks! It is fitting that the design of 1989 Fleer cards mimic a jail cell because no one should be able to throw that hard and look so good at the same time.

Leyland may need to be refitted for a hat.  Manager cards are the best. This one is a national treasure.

Taylor was a second round pick out of high school in 2013.  The Pirates traded him as a ptbnl in the Ike Davis a few years back.

Most people don't remember Matt Morris played for the Pirates at the tail end of his career.  I would like to forget too.....Still cool to have cards showing these brief moments of a players career.

More cards should show Maz fielding as that is what he was best at.  The only exception should be his walkoff World Series dinger.

Now for the Cutch portion of the show!

My wife is convinced that Cutch's wife made him shave the dreads.

The Perspective cards were cool and seem like they belong in the Stadium Club set.  Also, this is nicer than any Stadium Club card Cutch has had.  For some reason he has had really boring releases in Stadium Club.

I like this Bowman Best cards.  Like the "P" in the background.

Oh yeah! This Finest card is top notch.

Hard to tell if this is a pop up to first or a homerun over the Clemente Wall.

Man, Peter sent a ton of cool Chrome cards.

The Silent Bunch: A Reader Trade

Before I started Bob Walk the Plank I was a frequent reader of some of the more established blogs on the blogosphere. I rarely commented, but I was very active. I often thought about trading, but figured I would start my own blog first. My buddy Peter did what I couldn't do.

Peter stumbled onto my blog a few months back and we immediately had a successful swap. After a little time away we are back doing what we do best....swapping cardboard! Peter must have been hoarding Buccos for me as he sent a ton.  This is just a small sample.

A beautiful refractor /150 of top Pirates prospect Tyler Glasnow. Tyler has been rocketing through the Pirate system and has been earning tons of praise from the leagues top talent evaluators.

 Peter knows I love Poloanco!

Cole seems to be breaking out in a big way so far this year. The sky is the limit for him. I'm a big fan of the Finest set.

A nice mix of Chrome Buccos. It was sad to see Martin go, but it was nice to see him get his big payday. The Blue Jays went all Godfather on him and gave him an actual offer he couldn't refuse. I'm kind of glad we didn't give the 5 years.

It finally looks like Harrison is showing signs of life. He and Cutch got off to a dreadful start which is a big reason the Pirates have been hovering around .500 most of the year. 

The 88 Donruss Walk is the epitome of man. Men want to be Bob Walk the ladies want to be with him.

It has been nice to see Steve Pearce do well in Baltimore. When he was in the Pirates system he absolutely killed the ball. Unfortunately for the Pirates it never translated to the big league club. He was given several opportunities, but never gained any traction because of injury and ineffectiveness. 

Here is look at the sum of cards Peter sent! Nothing like receiving a big box of cards in the mail.

Buctober Returns!

A much later post than anticipated as I was watching the Pirates secure a playoff spot.  At one point this season the Pirates were 10-18 and it looked like the season was heading south quick.  Thankfully they pulled through and finished strong.  Still a lot to play for as the Pirates can still win the division. If the Cubs can beat the Cardinals tonight the Pirates would only be a 1 1/2 games out. Gotta love meaningful baseball this late in the season.  I went 2/3 of my life without seeing it so I'm trying to savor every moment.

Now to Bob Walk the Plank business.  Lately an exciting new trend has been happening.  The last few weeks I've been getting a lot of emails from people who stumbled upon my blog looking to unload some Pirate cards.

Peter, who is a Yankees and Bills collector came across my blog and told me he had a stack of Pirate commons he was looking to unload.  I told him I could send some Yankees and a deal was struck.  He sent a big stack, but I'm only showcasing a few as many could be subjects of blog posts by themselves.

Peter sent a great group of cards highlighted by a stack of Panini Cooperstown.  The Mazeroski is the gold version /299.  It is much shinier than the scan shows.  Peter was also nice enough to send a long a nice Taillon Bowman's Best.  

Thanks for all the great cards Peter.  Look forward to trading again in the near future.
