I Got Teke'd

It has been a good mail week at BWTP headquarters. I'm officially double digit envelopes behind! It is a cool problem to have.

The most uniquely shaped recent package came courtesy of The Prowling Cat. It was a very small and compact rectangular package. The card contents made me smile. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

TEKE'd!!!!!

I've said it a lot since I've been blogging, but Teke is cardboard gold. It is the perfect mix of those dark glasses, unique delivery and awesome uniforms. He is impossible not to like. I have a feeling if you were a baseball fan in the 70's, Tekulve was probably one of the more imitated players out there. I know my Dad told me he and his friends would throw side arm all the time. Long live Teke! 

 Here is the unique item that Zenus sent my way......

125th season Pirates shot glass! I'll have to try it out soon.....maybe some Jameson!

Trade: The Prowling Cat

Several months back Zenus from The Prowling Cat asked me to see if I could locate some West Virginia Black Bear business cards. My first couple attempts went empty, but finally towards the end of the season I was able to locate one. Zenus returned the favor by sending me some Buccos.

 Barry had this disgusted look for most of his Pirate tenure.

This is a cool dual jersey card of the two best players on the early 2000's Bucco teams. The Giles jersey has a nice stripe running through it. I had been on a cold spell adding cards of Kendall and Giles so it was nice to get my hands on this card.

 Quiz time! According to this their are 24 teams in both Major Leagues.

Here is Pedro most likely making an error...I kid, I kid.....not really, he is terrible at defense.

 

Van Slyke was a personal favorite of the really good early 90's Bucco teams. These discs were 7 Eleven giveaways and were produced by Score.

Trade: The Prowling Cat

Another new trade partner! I reached out to Zenus from the blog The Prowling Cat to let him know I was holding a few extra Mariner cards. The trade took a while to come together as I was trying to get Kyle Seager auto from a friend of mine which took some time. Thankfully it worked out and I was able to get the trade rolling.

Yesterday I received the return package.  Check it out.

The Pirates had a rough time replacing Jack Wilson at short after he was traded to the Mariners. A standout defensively Jack had great range and a good throwing arm.

Jason Grilli was a former first round pick that could never get much traction at the Major League level. A journeyman most of his career until he found a home with the Pirates. He found new velocity and was a key component when the Pirates finally ended their 20 + year losing streak. He was traded to the Angels this past season. I'm always a sucker for the Update All Star cards.

I love the Renaldo Turnbull rookie card. WVU churned out quite a few NFL players on the defensive side of the ball during the 90's.
