I Got Teke'd

It has been a good mail week at BWTP headquarters. I'm officially double digit envelopes behind! It is a cool problem to have.

The most uniquely shaped recent package came courtesy of The Prowling Cat. It was a very small and compact rectangular package. The card contents made me smile. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

TEKE'd!!!!!

I've said it a lot since I've been blogging, but Teke is cardboard gold. It is the perfect mix of those dark glasses, unique delivery and awesome uniforms. He is impossible not to like. I have a feeling if you were a baseball fan in the 70's, Tekulve was probably one of the more imitated players out there. I know my Dad told me he and his friends would throw side arm all the time. Long live Teke!

Here is the unique item that Zenus sent my way......
125th season Pirates shot glass! I'll have to try it out soon.....maybe some Jameson!

Thanks so much for the cards and glass Zenus.  What a great surprise. Seeing all those Teke's really put a smile on my face.  I'll hit you back soon.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Your *dad* said he imitated Teke? I am not *that* much older than you...but I know as a third grader we imitated Teke and the Quiz with our sidearms back in 1980...

    1. My Dad was in his early 20's when he had me. So he would have been in high school in the late 70's.

    1. I don't think anything can replace a good Bipping, but this was fun.

  3. I never imitated Teke, but as a Braves fan I had another side armer to pretend like (Garber)

    1. I remember trying to pitch sidearm when I played ball. That is hard. I could never master the release point.

    2. The Pirates had Stan Belinda when I was young.

  4. Teke is awesome! I may have to add him to the list of non-Reds I collect. That looks like a really nice and fun package!

    1. Teke finished his career with a year in Cincinnati, if that counts for anything.

    2. I forgot about the Cincy stop. He had some good years with the Phillies after the Pirates.

    1. Thanks Mark! I just got an awesome card that I'm super excited to give to you. I may have to do a post about it even though it is not a Pirates card!

  6. Growing up Teke was who I patterned my pitching after. When I tried out for the high school baseball team you should have seen everyone watching me pitch. Didn't help me make the team :(

    1. I give anybody props that can pitch like that. It is hard. If I saw someone pitching sidearm when I was young it would have been hard to dig in.
