Damn You Todd Fraizer

This year marked the fifth year in a row that I met up with friends and my brother to watch opening day baseball. I actually took the day off today to watch all the 1pm starts along with the Pirates 4pm game. While the final result for the Pirates was lacking it was good day of baseball. You can't take much away from one game but here are a few thoughts.

- Have to wonder how long Tanaka will hold up topping out at 90 mph with his fastball
- King Felix is the man
- Dan Uggla actually started for the Nats....

It is always irritating to play today's game and then have to wait until Wednesday to play again. Let's hope the 10pm games are exciting.

Here is a nice dual auto of McCutchen and Adam Jones. Here's to a Pirates win on Wednesday!

  1. My takeaway is that McCutchen is good at base-balling.

    1. Yeah I think he will be just fine. Just a bad pitch to Frazier.

  2. From the Reds' side, it was frustrating to hear the radio call when Gregg was pitching. I was driving home from work at that point but it sure seemed obvious to me from the radio call that Gregg wasn't fooling anyone. Why let him pitch to McCutchen is beyond me.

    1. Gregg was terrible. Lambo and Polanco almost got him and they left him out there to face Mccutchen. Probably not ideal for reds. Guess it doesn't matter in long run but still questionable. I guess if I was a reds fan I would be mad at Bryan price as he was dubbed a sabermetrics guy when he took over for dusty Baker and he still is following defined roles.

    2. Both starters seemed to do well - but yes, Cueto is the man! Price says a lot of things but he doesn't seem to follow through (a big thing this spring was that he'd be using Chapman in more than just the strict ninth inning role). Tonight's game would have been a perfect opportunity to bring Chapman in for a multiple inning save and to face McCutchen in particular - after all, tomorrow is an off day for both teams. Oh well. Maybe the Reds should hire me.

    3. I think that is the thing that drives every Reds fan bonkers. You have arguably the best bullpen weapon in baseball and a perfect opportunity to kill a rally. Hire Nachos Grande!

    1. That was tough especially after scoring some runs off of kershaw.

  4. Tanaka is very interesting. I actually didn't think he was horrid. His first two innings were as sharp as can be. There were a few botched plays that didn't help, but overall I'm not certain he was as bad as his line ended up. Maybe I'm wrong or blind.

    1. I'm by no means an expert, but velocity drops are always a bad thing unless you are a past your prime pitcher. I watched the game too and he made guys look ridiculous in the first few innings, but major league hitters can adjust pretty fast when they know you can't throw a fastball.

  5. When Todd Frazier came to bat with Hamilton on 3rd, I knew they were going to score. Frazier is the only guy on that damn team that worries me with the bat. I think he often does the lil things so well.

    1. A lot of that inning stems from Watson not being able to field that comeback grounder from Hamilton. Having him on base late in the games spells trouble.

You just tip your cap to Frazier. He killed that ball.

  6. Btw...nice card. I remember posting mine a few years ago just after the O's extended Jones and Bucs extended Cutch.

    1. Yeah I have had this one for a few years too. Haven't seen it pop up in a while on eBay. Thankful I got it when I did.

    2. Very few of Cutch's 2010-2012 signatures ever pop up now. Its all his 2005 releases and recent Panini autos.
