2006 All Star Game

The 2006 All Star game was played in Pittsburgh and to this day is still in my top 5 sporting events that I've ever attended.  My brother and I went all out and purchased tickets for the entire weekend. That year the Pirates had two representatives.

At the time Bay was well established and deserved to make the team.  The big surprise was Freddy Sanchez who wasn't even on the ballot. With a strong write in campaign by the Pirates, Sanchez would be voted in as one of the more unlikely players to ever make the team. Sanchez's dream season would continue all the way until the last day of the season season when he secured the NL batting crown.

The above cards feature pieces of warm up jerseys from the All Star game in Pittsburgh. I purchased these in the same lot at the multi-sport cards I featured yesterday. Always fun when you a card triggers a cool memory.

Thanks for reading.

    1. He got traded to the Giants. He played a big part in that first championship in 2010. Injuries derailed his career. I kept hearing that he was trying to come back, but I think he officially retired last year.

  2. must've been great to be part of the experience ! Plus MLB ASG are way less boring than the NBA's or the Pro Bowl

    1. Baseball has by far the best All Star game. The NBA is only saved by the dunk contest and must people don't even pay attention to the NHL. By far the worst one is the NFL Pro Bowl. I would rather watch paint dry.

    2. The NHL probably has the most interesting skills competition, the Dunk Contest is hit or miss, and I find the Home Run Derby to be boring.
The fact that they play the all-star game for home field still bugs me, but I appreciate the league trying something...

    3. The game should be an exhibition. Still don't understand why they made the game count for something.

    1. Thanks! The yellow jerseys were pretty cool that year. I have a Bay one I still wear to games!

  4. Can't beat All-Star weekend - I didn't get to attend the game in Minneapolis, but I did get to go to the futures game the day before.

    1. The futures game I went too was stacked. Tulo, Votto, Neil Walker, Howie Kendrick, Alex Gordon, Ryan Braun....

  5. The most enjoyable part of the 2000 All-Star game festivities here in Atlanta was the futures game too. I've blogged about it in the past.

    1. The actual game itself in 2006 was really good too. The National League looked to end their losing streak, but I believe it was Michael Young who hit a go ahead triple.

I also was able to buy some cool mcfarlane figures that I need to show one of these days.
