Kiner and Duke

2005 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Dual Signatures Duke Snider and Ralph Kiner 13 of 15

This card was purchased during the great buying extravaganza of 2005.  I had just started my first "real job" so I had money to spend.  Snider and Kiner individually are very affordable, but the dual autos from from this set carried a bit of a premium.  I don't recall exactly how much it was, but remember it not being cheap. I'm thankful the signatures are holding up as sometimes these Sweet Spot autos can fade over time.

Kiner passed away earlier this year at the age of 91.  The Pirates are wearing a patch of his number 4 to commemorate him this season.

Thanks for checking out the blog.

    1. It wasn't a crazy amount at the time. I was thinking something around $60, but it was a long time a go. They don't pop up for auction very much so I'm happy I have one.

  3. That is a very cool card, you are lucky to have it in your collection. I think I had a similar buying extravaganza in the 2006-2008 range. That's when I build up a lot of my McCovey collection.

    1. I was happy I purchased a lot then. Allowed me to get a lot of the early Mccutchen cards before they got real expensive.

  4. Beautiful card of two HOFers who have moved on to bigger and better things. At least they left behind great memories and awesome autographs for bloggers and collectors to share while we're still around.

    1. Thanks Fuji! I enjoy collecting Kiner. He was a really interesting guy. I have a bunch of his autos to showoff at some point.
