The F Word

I went to the second half of the doubleheader on Tuesday against the Cubs with one of my bosses. Our original plan was to see about half the first game, but work obligations kept us in Morgantown too long. Either way it was a perfect day for a game.

I was able to get really nice tickets for the game so the pictures are a better than usual. My favorite part of the evening was watching David Ross. Ross doesn't play too much for the Cubs. He is to the point where he catches Jon Lester and is a defensive replacement. Boy does he love dropping the F bomb. At one point in the game he was trying to get to third base on a sac bunt attempt by Lester. It was a close play but he beat the throw to third. He would score soon after and upon returning to the dugout he screamed to his teammates "how bout that fucking slide bitches." It was hilarious and he had his teammates cracking up. A few parents in the front rows were not pleased, but they are idiots for not expecting that stuff from a major league dugout. Personally I thought it was a nice fucking slide too.....

Nice picture of Cutch at the plate.

I didn't realize I took some hipster black and white shot. Maybe I should do weddings.
I was digging the Kang-Ho shirt. Little did I know that Kang's season would end with a devastating leg injury thanks to Chris Coghlan two days later. I'm not that mad at Coghlan as baseball allows the runners to do that for some odd reason. Just upset that the Pirates have lost arguably their second best hitter this year for the playoff run. I'm glad the Pirates didn't start some kind of bean ball war. Unwritten baseball rules are stupid.
Nice view of the outfield. Like I said above, it was a perfect night.
Javier Baez and Addison Russel coming out of the dugout.
Jon Lester on deck.

The Pirates would lose the game, but it was a great night. I was hoping the Pirates could get into the weak Cubs bullpen, but Lester was very efficient. It pays to have big time starting pitching and the Cubs have two really good ones on top of their rotation.

Thanks for reading!

  1. That was an excellently played series on both sides and really had the feeling of playoff baseball. This pennant race is getting interesting!

    1. Starting pitching made the difference. Arrieta and Lester were both on top of thier games.

    1. He played for the Pirates for a short time too. Everyone seems to like him.

  3. makes no sense that you can maul a 2nd baseman with no pads.. but that catcher sure is defenseless wearing body armor

    1. I'm guessing they will look at this. Probably just need to make a rule that your legs need to go towards the bag.

  4. The arbitrary line draw between what's okay and what's not okay is definitely tricky. Personally if slamming yourself into the guy at 2nd is okay I say it's okay to trip the runners on the base paths.

  5. Thanks for the story about Ross. I'm even more of a fan of his now!

I'm sorry about Kang. He's on my fantasy team and I really enjoyed seeing him succeed this year. Everyone was thinking he was a flop back in April, but he turned himself into a serious contender for the ROY.
Personally, I wasn't happy with how high Coghlan's legs were on that slide. He was within the "rules" in terms of how close he was to second base, but he pretty much squared up Kang's knee by coming in high.

Good luck to the Buccos down the line!

    1. No use to get mad at Coghlan. A lot of guys do that, but he was the unlucky one that hurt someone. I remember Brett Lawrie destroyed Escobar from the Royals at the beginning of the year.

  6. A well timed F-Bomb can be funny as hell. People criticized Eddie Murphy for using It too much In his stand up routines but lets face It,It made us laugh.Sucks about Kang, man.Good luck the rest of the way ;)

    1. It still looks like we are on a collision course with the Cubs no matter what. Only thing at play is home field.

    1. Saved the game. Probably inside the park homerun if it gets by. Cutch wasn't backing him up.

  8. Coghlan was pretty upset about it too, at least as much as a MLB player can be - he apologized on the field and sent a letter to the Pirates clubhouse. Both sides seemed to think it was a "clean" play.
I still remember seeing Tsuyoshi Nishioka breaking his leg on a similar play with Nick Swisher.
Does the KBO have take out slides? Nishioka wasn't prepared to have Swisher taking him out and his positioning around the bag was pretty risky.

    1. Kang has played enough short in the big leagues to know about take out slides. This is the first one he had where the guy went higher than normall. Never a good time for this to happen, but right before the playoffs really hurts.

  9. Looks like a great time out at PNC. Games at the Oakland Coliseum are r-rated on a regular basis... sometimes worse when the Giants come to play. Parents definitely should bring their kids earmuffs if they don't want to hear an occasional f-bomb.

    1. I haven't had too much trouble at PNC park with idiots. Many more sober people than drunk so it usually polices itself. Different story for WVU games.....it is a mess.
