You know who might be the best.......
2016 Topps Opening Day Pirate Parrot Auto
I'm a sucker for these gimmick mascot autographs in Opening Day. In fact I think this was the only Opening Day card I purchased this year. The set has gone stale for the most part minus the inserts. I recall someone saying they wish Topps would use the Bunt base set and the Opening Day inserts. I could get on board with that.
Did I actually spend money on this card? You bet I did. I guess the kid comes out in me on these type of releases because I love this card. If it wasn't so expensive I would try and complete the mascot set every year.
The Parrot also made an appearance in the 2014 Opening Day set. I think I'm a fan of this one the most. The picture is cropped a little too much in 2016 version.
Overall if you are ever in the market for these just wait a few months after release. The Parrot auto dropped almost 50% during that time span.
Look at that penmanship!
Thanks for reading!
Too closely cropped and too much fog/haze/smoke to get a nice look at the Parrot.
ReplyDeleteI love the mascot cards. I would totally be on board if Bunt replaced OD if they kept the mascot cards around.
I think the perfect compromise would be to bring back Topps Total!
DeleteI think the mascot cards are a nice way to add some fun in to the products and the autographs are really unique. I just hope that the mascot autographs do not become overloaded and start showing up 5 different sets a year. The rarity makes them special.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree. Cards lose their luster when every set does the same thing. I love collecting McCutchen, but he is every set. Give me some more obscure players every once in a while.
DeleteThose two autos look fairly similar, I was worried about how well the mascots can sign with such big mitts.
ReplyDeleteThe Parrot signature is on point. I should get him to sign something next time I see him and compare.
