Fast forward to today and my non Pirates/WVU purchases are mainly locating cards for my blogging pals, and box breaks with Brian (HSCA) and Kevin (Card Papoy). My current reorganization has only reinforced my decision to consolidate.
Of course this all leads to showing off a recent purchase.......one that has nothing to do with my core sporting interests.
2014 Allen & Ginter Anthony Bourdain Auto
I've wanted this card for a long time. It has been saved in my eBay searches for several years. While plenty have shown up via best offer, auctions have few and far between. Patience pays off.
I believe this is only the second time I've purchased one of these Ginter non athlete autos.
For some reason I really wanted this Dr. James Andrews card. Maybe I'll just start Tweeting it to my friends when a pitcher on their favorite teams needs Tommy John surgery .
I pulled this one out of a retail box....
I wouldn't have purchased this card myself, but it was definitely a unique pull.
I'm not sure where I was getting at with this post other than the fact I'm pumped to have the Bourdain auto. Sometimes it is fun to change it up some.
Thanks for reading.
Bourdain has a rather unique signature. Nice add! Other baseball, celebrity autos from 60s/70s would something I'd chase. I've been eyeing a few Golden Age signs.
ReplyDeleteI pulled a Henry Rollins auto out of a repack. Needless to say, I was quite pleased.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought the Dr's signature would have been legible. Cool cards!
ReplyDeleteThe "Chef as Pop Icon" phenomenon is so weird to me. It took me forever to figure out who this guy was when he showed up in A&G, and I still don't get it. ... But the Jim Andrews, that's cool.

ReplyDeletei've said it before: if you don't have some cards in your collection that are there just because you like them, i think you might be missing the point
Wow. RIP chef
ReplyDeleteTiming. Wow......just wow.
ReplyDeleteYeah. So sad. Was out walking with my wife and she got the story on her phone...she was so shocked I was worried it was someone in her family or something. Enjoyed his book and TV shows. RIP.
DeleteYup, I was thinking the same thing when I saw the news this morning...
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear of Mr. Bourdain's passing today. My condolences to his family.
ReplyDeletehad to come back by this post Matt. An awful tragedy! Your purchase was well-timed. So sad. I didn't watch his show but knew he was an amazing guy, in touch with the world he traversed. He had such respect for other cultures. We need men/women like this in our world. A tremendous loss for all.
ReplyDeleteOriginally thought this was going to be a tribute post to Bourdain... but quickly realized it was posted before his passing. Last week was a rough week with the news of him and Spade. Tremendous loss for their loved ones and fans.
