Trade: Off Hiatus Baseball Cards

Tony from Off Hiatus Baseball Cards hooks me up with great Pirate cards on a regular basis.  My latest bubble envelope from Tony was full of Pirates he picked up at a card show.  I'm always jealous of bloggers that live in areas where shows still occur.  The Pittsburgh area still has some shows, but since I collect Pirates I'm sure I would have to pay a premium price.  Maybe now that I have a blog it could be a good way to find trade bait.  Let's check out what Tony sent.....
I love adding Kiner cards.  One of the very firsts posts I did for Bob Walk the Plank discussed his career in depth.
A really nice gold parallel of Starling Marte.  Marte has been on fire the last month. Nice to see many of the Buccos hitting their stride at such a crucial point of the season.

I love Topps Finest.  Every card I receive from this years set makes me want to go buy a box.  I've managed to talk myself out of it, but you are adding fuel to the fire Tony.
I was happy to see this card in the stack since I didn't open any 2013 Prizm.  I've completed 2012 and I'm about 90% finished with 2014.  Prizm is a popular choice for our monthly box opening parties as the set offers a nice autograph checklist and the price is around $50.  Good bang for your buck.

 Nice rookie card of Marte!
Readers of the blog know that Cole is one of my favorite Pirates.  This is a really nice orange refractor from Topps Chrome.
To finish things off Tony sent me a Maz manu patch card.  Before the blog I avoided manu patches, but they have started to grow on me.  Maz cards are always welcomed additions.

As always Tony thanks for finding some great Pirates.  I'm already setting aside cards for our next deal.

  1. As much as the Blue Border cards work for the Royals cards, I think the Gold borders work well with the Pirates cards.

I wish everyone would stop posting the Finest cards, I'm getting envious. They look really nice. All these cards look nice.

    1. The gold does look nice....even better in person.

If you ever have extra Brewers cards shoot Tony a message as I'm sure he would love to trade with you. We swap all the time.

Finest is a great looking set. The price is just too high for what you get.

    2. You're 100% right about that, Matt -- all Brewers, all the time. And I've got a bunch of Royals cards available. :-)

    3. Great! Hope you guys work out a deal. He was one of my contest winners so I'm working on a package for him right now.

  2. That's a nice Maz card, but that is Dick Groat in the picture. Check this out...

    1. Good eye! Maybe Dick Groat has a relative that works for Topps and was tired of Maz getting all the love for that time period.

  3. Nice grouping of Pirates! I have taken a liking to the manu-patches as well. I just picked up a complete set of 2014 Finest for $15. Good bargain for a gorgeous offering! Cools the jealousy a bit.

    1. That is a great deal. I might have to look into something like that.

  4. Glad you got those and that you liked them. The hardest thing about buying for trades is whether the person for whom you're buying will like and need the cards you get!

The best thing about buying for trades at card shows is that it gives me something to buy if I need a few cards to get to a round number -- i.e., to get to the 20 or 30 for $5 or whatever the deal is. Sometimes, it leads me to go another 10!

    1. I'm easy to buy for as I like everything! Also I have a nice contingent of friends who I pass along doubles in case I do have something.

One of these years I'm going to go to a card show. I know with me when I'm shopping online I'll find more stuff that I think some of my trade buddies will like than myself. I enjoy buying some of the other teams.
