Super Teams

I consider myself a team collector, but in the loosest of ways.  When a set comes out I don't instantly hit eBay for all the Pirates. Mainly I just gather the ones that look good or the checklist is offering something new.

Lately my main source of team sets has been a seller that is in the process of liquidating a huge Pirates collection over the last year.  I've ordered quite a bit from him as his collection hit some weak areas of my collection.

This brings to my latest purchase.  Below is the Pirates from 2002 Topps Super Teams.  The set was hobby only and consisted of players from 11 World Series teams.  The Clemente photo cracks me up as I don't think he was quite ready for the photo....

Overall not the nicest of sets, but the content is great.  I love anything celebrating the Pirates World Series victories so this makes a nice addition to the collection.  In case anybody is wondering here is a link to the checklist.

Thanks for reading.

    1. It is a fun one. I wouldn't mind to put the whole thing together.

  4. I've been grabbing quite a few Jason Bay cards from him over the past year. some of the team sets he was offering were priced super cheap.

    1. I've been mainly focusing on obscure team sets. I was really hoping to fill more holes in my Bay and Mclouth collections but haven't made much progress there.

  5. Thanks for sharing the link to the checklist. I've received cards from this set in the past, but this makes me either want to buy a completed set or at the very least go out and grab the '74 Athletics.

P.S. The combo card is really cool... although Topps dropped the ball on the Clemente.
