Baseball is Fun Again

This is a nondescript card celebrating a walkoff win by the Buccos back at the end of May.  Not a whole lot to talk about in terms of the card.  Topps NOW loves their walkoffs.  I do like the cameo of Clint Hurdle in the background.

What is worth talking about is the major resurgence from Cutch! It was so depressing watching him struggle for the better part of last year and going into April this year.  While the Pirates have been treading water much of the season, it has been a joy having Cutch remind baseball that he isn't quite dead yet.

Obviously the negative side of things is that Cutch has made himself a more desirable trade target. While this seems likely to happen I'll still be depressed to see the face of the franchise on another team.  The only thing I hope is that the Pirates don't trade him within the division.  Cutch as a Cub or Cardinal would make me throw up.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Love the Monty Python reference! I quote that film daily and get many an eye roll from the wife.

Also, I'm slightly more okay with the thought of Cutch in a Cubs uni, though I don't think that'd ever happen.

    1. You just don't see too many trades within the divisions. Hard pill to swallow watching your franchise player destroy you 18 or 19 times a year.

  2. Totally know what you're going through. Earlier this week, I saw my favorite San Jose Shark... a guy who has spent his entire career (nearly two decades) with the team... sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hopefully Pirate fans won't have to say goodbye to their face of the franchise.

    1. It is a delicate situation for sure. I hope he stays, but would understand if he is traded. Nature of the game these days.

  3. Baseball is better when Andrew McCutchen is good.

    1. Oh yeah, for sure! It was just a weird thing where he slumped for an entire year. Obviously it had to be something mechanical but no one could put a finger on it. He just started hitting again and nothing looks that different.

  4. Aw, a virtual pat on the back for you. -And don't worry, the Cubs need dudes that can pitch. If he ends up with the Cubs, I'll puke. ;)

  5. I don't want him traded at all. But it does seem likely. Ho hum. oh, nice card.

    1. The only thing that may keep him in Pittsburgh is that not many teams are looking for outfield help.

  6. Went to Phillies/Pirates last night. Cutch looked legit he seems to gotten over whatever was bothering him earlier this year.

    1. It is the strangest thing. He went from looking lost to right back to his All Star level without any middle ground.

  7. Cutch is and always be in my mind, the man. When I started getting back into baseball cards again it was him legging out a triple in 2009 that made me say "damn. Watching this guy is fun"

Almost 1800 unique cards later he is still my favorite player. I will likely root for whatever he plays for next unless it's the Brewers or Cardinals

    1. I don't think we have to worry about him being dealt within the division.

    1. It is actually looking like that. Barely any rumors since most teams need pitching and not outfield help.
