Monumental Markings

It has been a while since I've shown off a Cutch card.  Other than a few sticker autos in this years Donruss, the Pirates star has not signed in a couple of years. Thankfully I hoarded his autos when I did as the prices have gone through the roof.

2011 Topps Marquee McCutchen/Tabata Dual Auto /15

Marquee was another attempt by Topps to add a high end set to the market. As expected it fell flat with collectors and it was scrapped.  With that being said it did produce a few nice cards of Pirates. This dual auto was my favorite in the set and features two bold on card autos.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Nice card. I remember when Jose Tabata was being heralded as the next Yankee star.

    1. The crazy thing is that Tabata is still really young. I think his ship has sailed with the Pirates, but his contract doesn't really make him tradeable.

  2. I liked Marquee. The cards were pretty nice and the base cards used better photos than your usual high end product.

    Nice pickup.

    1. Marquee was perfect to cherry pick off of eBay. I didn't mind the set either, but it just didn't strike a chord with collectors.

  3. I agree with Elizabeth, Nadeem, and Jhon.

I really like when autos have an abundance of white in the card design. It always makes the signatures pop and look really good.

Jhon is a new, maybe we can work out a trade.

You are right about the card popping. Sometimes less is more.

  5. I've always liked those dual autos with guys from the same team. Kind of fun imagining them signing it in the clubhouse (yeah, I imagine strange things, I know. call me a romantic)

    1. I have a bunch from the mid 2000's, but now if they are on same team it is most likely prospects.

  7. Marquee had some great Pirates autos and game used cards. I stockpiled a bunch of Walker, Tabata, and of course Cutch back in 2011. I was actually looking at my copy of this card a few days ago.
