Slaught Machine

Man, I'm a huge sucker for these Leaf buy back cards. The good thing is they are affordable which is a blessing as the Pirates are featured prominently in the set. Also helps that several of my blog friends have hooked me recently. Just in the past week The Card Papoy and Jaybarker have hooked me up with a Bob Walk and Jeff King.

Back in April I featured the 1/1 of Mike Spanky Lavalliere. I was way too excited to own that card as Spanky was a fan favorite and I love finding rare cards of guys not featured in modern sets that had autos and relics.

You can't have Spanky without Sluggo....
2012 Leaf Memories Buy Back 1/1 Don Slaught

I picked this up last month for around $10 if my memory serves me correctly. Slaught was the offensive catcher while Spanky was known as a defensive specialist. An odd mix but the Pirates found a good bit of success utilizing both catchers skill set. Both had OPS+ well above 100 during their Pirate playing days. 100 is considered major league average.

Yay for cheap 1/1's!

  1. Very cool! I wish I could find the Rick Leach 1/1 from the 1990 buyback but I haven't seen it pop up since it sold a couple years ago. I'll keep an eye out for these for you just in case, though, since like you said they're not ridiculously expensive for 1/1s.

    1. Thanks for keeping an eye out. They are fun chase cards of some great early 90s names.

  2. I haven''t had the opportunity to own a buyback yet, but it doesn't seem like my thing. Those are nice though. Nice post.

You had me at Slaught Machine. I wish I was better at creating titles for my posts.

    1. They are a fun modern twist to the early 90s junk wax cards. I've been chasing them as they are some of my favorite names during that time period.
