My parents are in the final stages of building a house so part of the process was cleaning out the attic where all my stuff was stored. After it was all said and done 19 boxes came back to my house. It was mainly cards and figures. I'm not sure when I'll have the time to get through everything but I grabbed a few cards to showcase in the coming days.
Check this out....
1910 Mecca Cigarettes Boxing Joe Choynski
I don't remember how I got this card, but I'm guessing it was an auction. Back when I was in college I use to frequent shows, flea markets and auctions. This looks like something I would have bought in a lot of old cards at an estate auction.
Overall the card looks to be in good condition. I don't think these are too rare, but it is still really cool. While I know for a fact the 19 boxes are not full of cards like this, it does make me wonder what else I stored in those boxes. My hope is to find some cool 90's inserts which I know I have somewhere.....
Thanks for reading.
VERY NICE, CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE
ReplyDeleteYeah....I started looking through one box last night. Have some fun stuff to show in the coming days.
DeleteNice find! I'm looking forward to rediscovering some of the stuff I've picked up over the past decade and forgotten about when close on the house.
ReplyDeleteI had a general idea of what I had, but the older cards I completely forgot about. You will have a blast going through everything.
DeleteWell, that's not something you see everyday. Cool (re)discovery!
ReplyDeleteOld timey boxers just look tough.
DeleteWhoa! That's pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was a nice surprise.
DeleteSweet rediscovery! Love vintage boxing!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'll look for any more vintage boxing cards but I do like them.
DeleteChrysanthemum Joe -- heavyweight boxer from San Francisco. Pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the nickname!
DeleteVery cool card. The one vintage boxing card I own is from that set .
ReplyDeleteI know I have at least one more card from the set. Hopefully I continue to locate all my old cards.
Delete100 year old cardboard rules. And it's good to know that I'm not the only collector out there that uses their parents house for storage.
ReplyDeleteI had a good run of using my parents house as a storage locker, but I really had no excuse anymore. Although it did take them building a new house for me to get motivated enough to retrieve my stuff. My wife didn't seem to thrilled about 20 containers being added to our house....
DeleteI don't have space in my townhouse... so if my parents ever downsize, my collection will follow suit.
DeleteI tried to get my parents to take some of my stuff to their new place, but they didn't like that idea. It may motivate to get rid of a few non sports things I have.
