2 for 1

The co-signers Stadium Club autos were a pretty big deal back in the late 90's. As far as premium cards went they were some of the most desirable. Thankfully the Pirate players were mainly paired with other lower $ value players which has helped me accumulate many of the variations over the years.

1997 Stadium Club Todd Hollandsworth/Jason Kendall Co'Signers Auto

These two are connected in that they both broke in the majors at the same time. Hollandsworth won the rookie of the year in 1996 while Kendall finished third. Both players would go on to have long careers with Kendall developing into an All Star catcher in the early part of his career before a devastating leg injury zapped most of his power and speed. Hollandsworth stayed in the league for a long time, but became more of a reserve outfielder type.

This card ran me $5 plus shipping on eBay.

Thanks for reading!

  2. Nice card...I do have to agree on the lower value assessment of Holly.
His luggage from AAA arrived, but the potential stayed behind.

    1. He never really seemed to adapt to major league pitching after it adjusted to him.

  3. It's probably totally unfair, I was thinking that Hollandsworth won ROY because the voters forgot they could vote for players on other teams than LA . . .

    1. Ha. If you would have suited up during that time as a Dodger you could have won.

  4. Nice card. Although it's proof that it's sometimes better to go acquire a card of solid major leaguers after they've retired.

    1. I guess you never know how a career is going to turn out, but you are probably right. For every Cutch you have guys like Giles and Kendall.

  7. Those Co-Signers are cool, I don't have one in my collection but need to review the checklist and see if anyone fits my collection.

    1. I'm sure the Giants have something since the Pirates were represented. This was the dark era of the Pirates and guys like Kendall and Jose Guillen still made the cut.
