Billy Joel

Several months back I surprised my wife and her mom with tickets to see Billy Joel at PNC Park. My wife will likely read this post so all you guys can leave comments how I spend most of time on here talking about how much I worship the ground she walks on....

In all seriousness she lets buy cards and beer so it was the least I could do.  The concert was this past Friday and she got some pretty cool pics....

PNC doesn't host many concerts. Off the top of my head I only remember Jimmy Buffett, Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews. My guess it is a huge pain in the ass for the grounds crew to get the stadium in working order again.

My wife said he pretty much played his greatest hits album plus Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

These tickets should give me free reign to buy a Clemente rookie, right?

  1. Very nice gesture. I'd do something similar for my significant other but NYC has a lot more options than Bankee Stadium for artists, and from what I've been told the other venues are better for all parties involved :P.

    1. I'm not a huge fan of stadium venues. I like the smaller concert halls or outside pavilions.

  2. "I spend most of time on here talking about how much I worship the ground she walks on"

If by saying "holy crap, that woman of mine is a damn slave driver" is considered worshiping the ground she walks on, then yeah - you talk about her all the time.

  3. Cool pictures. "We didn't start the fire" is one of my favorite non country songs.

    1. I sing that song like Peter Griffin from Family Guy because I forget half the words.

  4. Considering how many eBay packages must arrive there based on what you've posted, you probably need to send her on a worldwide tour following Billy Joel around for a year to come to even. ;-)

  5. Fun fact: Billy Joel was my college commencement speaker.

He puts on a good show. Glad you got to see him. And holy hell, that looks like a grounds crew nightmare.

    1. Thankfully the Pirates are on a long 10 game road trip.

We never had anybody fun for our commencement activities.

  6. Fantastic-didn't you also take her to Dropkick Murphys? These concerts show your worship well. Assuming he did Allentown?

    1. My wife did confirm he played Allentown. She did go to the Dropkick's with me.

  7. I love the picture of the stage against the Pittsburgh skyline at night... Although judging by how tiny Billy is in the picture maybe that's not such a great thing.

Being from Long Island, I am legally obligated to be a fan of Billy Joel, and I've been one for many years, so I'm not sure whether "He pretty much played his greatest hits album" is a good thing for Mrs. Walk The Plank and her mom. Me, I'd rather hear "All For Leyna" or "Los Angelinos" than hear "My Life" or "Just The Way You Are" for the umpteenth time.

  8. Wow, I can't believe they covered the entire playing field and then set up seats down there. I'm not sure what they do at Wrigley, but I can't imagine trying to get that field back in working order.
I'm with you on the concert venues, smaller is better.

    1. If I'm going to a big venue I like something more in tune with festivals where you can walk around.

  9. Billy Joel is solidly within my top 5 favorite artists of all time. I grew up on a steady mix of 70's singer/songwriters, of which Billy Joel was king. I only wish I could afford tickets to his Wrigley shows!

    1. I went directly through the Pirates to get tickets the day they went on sale. No chance in hell I would have purchased from the secondary market. The prices were around $200 just to get in the door....
